2017 - Team 17 - Playtonic Games

For years Fans have wanted a return to the Banjo-Kazooie series, and Yooka-Laylee tries to fill that gap. Sadly it falls short and ends up feeling like a cheap knock-off.

At first, I was really enjoying it. The music, characters & voices feel just like the other series and captures the nostalgia straight away.

The problem is, the nostalgia runs out quite quickly and I started to lose the love around world 3. A large swampland maze with repetitive platforming sections.

You learn abilities as you progress through the game which allow you to access locked off areas or pagies but these feel more like a chore than actually enjoyable.

The later levels are better, the Casino & Galaxy worlds are fun and offer a variety of missions to try, but to access Capital B's tower, you have to acquire 100 Pagies overall. However, by the time I had access to the Final Battle, I'd fallen out of love with the game and I wasn't having fun anymore. I tried Capital B twice then turned it off, and I'm not sure if I'll bother going back to it.

It's not a bad game, it's just not great either. It's a shame because I was really excited for this and it started off so well. It's just a shame that the nostalgia goggles fell off so quickly.
