OK, I did not enjoy this as much the 2nd time around. Maybe it hasn't aged well, or maybe I'm just spoilt by modern games, but this game just feels weak. If you watch the trailer, it still looks fun, and maybe in small doses yeah, but if you want a full on shooting experience you won't get it here.

I played this game to death when it first came out, so was excited to relive it on my XBOX ONE thanks to Backwards Compatibility. And yes, it looks good and plays great, but this just helps to highlight how shallow the game has become over the years.

back in 2005 this was great. A paint by numbers 3rd person shooter that doesn't take itself seriously in any way, with cheesy voice acting and no real story other than "Your mission is to topple a sinister military regime"

It plays similar if not identical to Just Cause. As it says on the box "if it drives or flies, you can hijack it. If it shoots or explodes, you can use it as a weapon. You are free to go anywhere, destroy anything and blow the crap out of everything"

And that's where my main issue with the game is, There is a lack of variety in the missions, you basically drive to & from the 4 main factions, doing the same missions over & over again. There are side missions (mostly time trials) to acquire more cash to spend on Airstrikes, Supplies or Vehicles, but there's no need to, because you rack up the funds frequently anyway.

Maybe, it's because I've been buried in Fallout 4 for weeks, but I just can't get as engaged in Mercenaries like I once did. The large bland & empty map doesn't help, driving back & forth through the same areas just wears thin.
