Gladius is a mixed bag of a game. It's fun in small doses but I really doubt many people would bother to see this one through to the end. It plays like a turn based Tactics style RPG, but I couldn't really class it as an RPG, because pretty much the entire game takes place inside arenas partaking in mini-games and tournaments.

There is a world map to travel around, but that's just to get you from one Arena to the next. The whole first section sees you just running to & from 5 different arenas battling. There are some random battles to encounter, but they can be avoided, and can result in perma-death for some of your weaker soldiers should they fall in battle.

The combat is fun, but after about a quarter of the way through you realise that there isn't much more to see but more battles & Mini-games. It's such a shame because this could have been a great little game if it had a bit more variety and less bloody arenas.
