Another one of those games I had fond memories of back in the XBOX days, and maybe it was better left there.

The Army Men games have always been a budget series, and have churned out many over the years. They have always had a charm to them that kept you playing. Army Men RTS stands as my favourite of the series, and Sarge's War was quite high up the list.

Visually the game still looks good with interesting level designs, and all the usual Army Men characters are there. The missions are cut & paste, but still quite fun, and the story is engaging. I still love the fact you get holes chipped out of you as you take damage and have to use Plastic to fill it back in.

what ruins it for me & made this game such a slog was the controls, They're totally wrong and mapped in a way that just doesn't work. Yes this game was made in 2004, but Halo had been out for 3 years by then and had shown how shooter controls should be done.

For instance, the Right Trigger is the zoom, and you shoot with the A button. which drove me crazy. The Left Trigger is more for auto targeting, but when in the heat of battle you find yourself constantly tapping the wrong buttons. Also, the guns feel weak & lifeless when using them, as if they were actual toys firing plastic bullets.

Overall, this isn't a bad game, it's just another Army Men game. Maybe if I'd played it without the nostalgia goggles on, I might have enjoyed it a bit more.
